The tandem dismissals of high profile news anchors have captured headlines and eyeballs around the globe. Yes, I was a former news anchor, but I believe these upheavals aren’t nearly as influential as a different type of departure that’s surging: CEO turnover.
Every month, the global outplacement firm of Challenger, Gray and Christmas, Inc. tracks CEO turnover. They’ve just reported that Q1 showed the highest quarterly CEO turnover in years. “There’s pent up demand for change at the top,” says the firm’s Senior Vice President, Andrew Challenger.
During the pandemic years, turnover in the C-suite was low. But with that crisis now in our rearview mirrors, turnover at the top is accelerating as organizations (not unlike cable networks) respond to challenges and right their ships.
“Companies are undergoing a significant amount of change as they respond to economic challenges, higher costs, and talent management issues,” he says.
